Work began on the original structure a fortnight ago so a replacement that has better protection from the elements could be installed.
Engineers were seen putting the new 22-metre-long, 20-tonne steel structure footbridge in place over the Union Canal yesterday (Wednesday).

Part of Station Road, which links Brightons and Polmont, has been closed for two weeks to allow for the installation.
Councillor Paul Garner, environment spokesman, said: “The existing bridge was beginning to show its age and, in future, will require less maintenance, reducing costs for us.
“It’s popular with local residents and we hope that the two-week closure while the work is carried out isn’t too disruptive.”
